My Top Ten Movies of All Time!

So when I say all time – that is all time according to my life and so these movies will only really cover from the 80’s onwards as that is my era! But I have some movies that I really love so I thought that I would share my top 10 movies with you!

I thought I had a bit of an eclectic taste in films but looking at my list I guess some of them could be classed as girly movies but hopefully some of these are favorite top ten movies of yours too. It would be interesting to hear what are your own favorite movies though so feel free to comment your likes and dislikes at the end!

I may change my mind about the order of these depending on what mood I am in but at the moment my top ten movies stand as follows:

Top Gun (Widescreen Special Collector's Edition)
Amazon Price: $6.24
List Price: $12.98
Top Gun
Amazon Price: $2.99

1 Top Gun (1986)

An 80’s classic, how can you beat Tom Cruise at his finest hour paired with Kelly McGillis and the famous beach volleyball scene with the four guys including the sexy Val Kilmer all hot and sweaty lol! Think I know the words pretty much off by heart after watching this tens of times.. "Hey Goose you big stud, take me to bed or lose me forever!"

O' Brother, Where Art Thou?
Amazon Price: $1.99

2 - O Brother Where Art Thou? (2000)

I’m a bit of a Cohen Brothers fan but for some reason this one is just one of my all time favourites – it helps to have George Clooney in it but it is the quirky nature of the film (it’s loosely based on Homer’s The Odyssey) together with the music that makes it for me. When I went to see this at the cinema the friend I went with hated it so obviously not to all tastes!

Dude Where's My Car?
Amazon Price: $2.99

3 - Dude, Where’s My Car? (2000)

A very stupid but at the same time fun movie, can’t help but laugh every time I watch this one. Not a fan of farce but somehow this one really hits the right comedy spot!

4 - A.I (Artificial Intelligence) (2001)

Again with this one I am not a fan of Science Fiction movies so you would think this would not get on my list but I think it is the characters that carry this one through as well as a great storyline – and who cannot fail to love ‘Teddy’?! It’s a bit of a long one though (2h 20m) so make sure you have time to spare!

Elizabethtown
Amazon Price: $9.99

5 - Elizabethtown (2005)

It’s weird how what might seem like a normal film will get on your list of favourite movies – I can watch this over and over again and not get bored! There are quite a fe deep undercurrents running through this movie and a lot of it is about emotions and dealing with things but at the front of it is a relationship story that seems more real than some kinds of love stories.

I Love You, Man
Amazon Price: $2.99

6 - I Love You, Man (2009)

The most recent movie on my list – I saw this just before ‘The Hangover’ came out and I thought it was way funnier! The story of a how a guy has to find a best man for his wedding when he realises he doesn't really have any great male friends.

Pearl Harbor (Two-Disc 60th Anniversary Commemorative Edition)
Amazon Price: $4.00
List Price: $14.99
Pearl Harbor [Blu-ray]
Amazon Price: $13.09
List Price: $20.00

7 - Pearl Harbor (2001)

Another epic one this with a human story behind it – I guess that is what hooks you in, what is going to happen with the characters. Very well shot though too, all 3 hours of it, even if the historical accuracy is brought into question. Has been called the worst war movie ever but maybe it shouldn't be looked at as a war movie but a human story.

Cold Mountain
Amazon Price: $7.33
List Price: $14.98

8 - Cold Mountain (2003)

Here we go with the epic movies once more – another long one at 2h 35mins! Jude Law and Nicole Kidman make a slightly strange couple I feel but still somehow it works as you really want to keep watching til the end and can sympathise with the characters.

9 - Catch Me If You Can (2002)

One of the movies that really brought Leonardo di Caprio to mass attention and based on a true story which for me always helps a movie to win me over. The main character manages to get away with posing as various things including an airline pilot and is hunted down by a police officer. It's kind of made so that we are on his side and we hope he gets way with it. Maybe there is a little bit of all of us that wants to be Frank Abagale!

Enemy of the State
Amazon Price: $13.55
List Price: $14.99

10 - Enemy of the State (1998)

Will Smith stars in this which is the only chase/action movie in my list which is strange as that is the usual kind of movie that I go for but this one really has me on the edge of my seat the whole way through so gets my vote.

What are your favorite movies?

So, as I say, it would be interesting to hear what your favorite movies or indeed your top ten movies are - or just your all time favorite one that I should check out if I haven't seen it so feel free to comment below.

An interesting Top 10 list, I think we are in the minority when we think Elizabethtown is good movie....my favorite movies in no order would include...Pulp Fiction, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Kingdom of Heaven and Groundhog Day...thanks for posting.

Interesting list. I've only seen 4 of the 10. I'll have to check out the others and give some thought to my own top 10. One would be Gorky Park, with William Hurt and Lee Marvin. I've never seen it on any list of best movies, but it's one of mine.

@Cogerson yes I think you are right, I haven't heard of Elizabethtown being on many lists! Yes, Pulp Fiction I think is a popular one and I did enjoy that, just a bit violent for me :-)

@brianlokker I'm sure I have seen Gorky Park but I can't really remember it - I have a terrible trait that I don't remember a movie unless I have seen it 3 times!

Thanks for your comments.

Great list and great movies! My kiddos just shared "out-takes" from I Love You Man. Very funny! I read Cold Mountain but missed the movie. If it is half as good as the book -- Fabulous! Catch Me If You Can is very clever.

Thanks Sally, I haven't read Cold Mountain the book and I have to admit I get lazy after seeing a film and I don't end up reading the book!

@Azure11 I never want to see a film made from a book before reading the book, if I have any thought whatsoever of reading the book. So I postpone seeing the movie, don't get around to reading the book, and don't see the movie either. Too many books and films, not enough time!

LOL Brian I can also think of a few movies that I have done that with! Was at a literary festival yesterday and almost bought a whole load of books, was like a sweetshop, but I restricted myself as I knew I wouldn't have time to read them all or else I wouldn't get anything else done!

O Brother Where Art Thou is a great movie. I think you should explore older movies, though -- looks like Top Gun is your oldest. There were hundreds of great, great movies made before 1986! You seem to love comedies and slapstick. Check out Charade or Arsenic & Old Lace.

Hi deblipp, thanks for your comment but you know what, I absolutely detest slapstick! I think Dude is the one that verges on it but I'm not sure I would really class it as that. But you are right, I do need to see some older ones or try and remember older ones that I have seen that were great!

good list. My ultimate favorite movies include: The Untouchables (Brian De Palma, 1987) and Moulin Rouge! (Baz Luhrman, 2000)

Oh yes Dreamer, Moulin Rouge is close to this list too, in fact it might nudge itself on if I watch it again soon!

I agree with 'I love you man.' It's the best 'bromance' flick I've seen for sure, and it's just nonstop funny and amusing. And I'm a huge Rush fan so that was a delightful bonus.

Yay, someone else who appreciates 'I Love You Man' - thanks pchh!
